Daniel's Den Click title to read excerpt or buy from CBD.com By Brandt Dodson/ Harvest House
Reviewed by Laura HiltonIf you like thrillers or suspense, then you won't want to miss Daniel's Den.Daniel Borden and Laura Traynor live in different areas of the country and live very different lives. Daniel is a successful and wealthy stock broker in New Orleans, while Laura owns a floundering bed and breakfast in the Shenandoah Valley, while struggling to make ends meet by working two jobs and raise her young son, Andy. Laura wouldn't have said life was good, she was still deeply in debt from her husband's unsuccessful treatment of cancer, and struggling to make payments on the bed and breakfast. Daniel had a good life, perfect in most every way. He'd never married and lived alone with his dog, Elvis. But then things change. It all started with a black van that seemed to be everywhere that Daniel went…and a not so innocent visit Laura experienced from a real estate agent. Then suddenly, both Laura and Daniel find themselves fleeing hit men. Their enemy is common; the "game" is dangerous. And its very high stakes. Daniel's Den is the first book I've read by Brandt Dodson. At first glance from the cover I thought maybe it was a youth book. I was very surprised when I picked it up to read and find out that not only is it not directed toward youth, but that he is a writer to be compared with Brandilyn Collins and Dee Henderson. The story is fast paced with short paragraphs that easily hold your attention but at the same time draw you into the story. Both Laura and Daniel are realistically developed characters that will make you care. If you like thrillers or suspense, then you won't want to miss Daniel's Den. |

This quiet, orderly life comes to an abrupt end when Daniel is assigned to audit the accounts of a co-worker who mysteriously died. As Daniel digs into the accounts he discovers discrepancies that point toward criminal activities on a grand scale. Seeking help, Daniel reports his discoveries to his superior who promptly hatches a plan to implicate Daniel in the thefts and the murder of his co-worker. Daniel has no choice but to set out on his own to discover the mastermind behind these crimes. His travels lead him to Laura Sky's bed and breakfast where he soon learns Laura's current struggles are related to his plight. Together Laura and Daniel run from assassins set on eliminating them before they figure out who is behind the crimes and expose them. As you can imagine from the description of Daniel's Den, this book is a race ahead thriller that keeps the reader charging through the book to see how Daniel fares. But it's more than a thriller. Author Brandt Dodson combines fast pacing with a special romance and his usual spiritual message that resonates with the reader. Dodson is known for his gritty mysteries, but with the release of White Soul and Daniel's Den, Dodson has demonstrated his ability to pen strong suspense novels with intricate and detailed plots. His research is spot on and he provides just the right amount of information to make the story credible but not boring. And most importantly, his characters continue to be well developed, engaging the reader in the story so they can identify with the characters struggle and resolution to their conflict. |
