Q: How did you get your start writing fiction and what genre do you predominantly write in? A: I grew up reading Nancy Drew. As a young girl, those stories transported me to a world packed with adventure and intrigue. Can you guess where my writing journey ended up? Writing suspense, of course! Q: What does your writing space look like? A: I have a downstairs office with a bank of windows that provides a tranquil backdrop of tall oak trees and an expansive lake. Glancing at that placid setting offers the perfect pause as I’m conjuring up new ways to harm my hero or place my heroine in danger. Don’t look at my desk, though. When I’m working on a new book, the area around my laptop is cluttered with papers and reference books! Q: In this busy world, how do you find time to connect with God and how does this impact your writing? A: I get up early and start my day with Morning Prayer and scripture. When I put God first, my life runs more smoothly and the writing flows. Often new ideas spring to mind during prayer. I like to think that the Lord and I work together on my books. J Q: What part of a writing career do you find most difficult? A: Authors need to not only write great stories but also market their work. Juggling the “other” jobs that come with the profession takes me away from my work in progress. Finding balance is the key, which is not always easy. Q: Would you tell us about your current book release PERSON OF INTEREST? A: The blurb for PERSON OF INTEREST says it best: While babysitting a young servicewoman’s infant, Natalie Frazier hears a murder in the neighboring army duplex. Convinced her former commander is behind the crime, the ex-soldier bolts with the baby. But who will believe her story? Army investigator Everett Kohl deals only with the facts, but this time his gut instincts can’t be denied. Is the attractive Natalie a cunning killer, as his ranking officers believe, or an innocent victim? Ordered to bring her in, Everett has a decision to make. Helping her could cost him his job…but not protecting Natalie and the baby could get all of them killed… Q: Where did you get your inspiration for this story? A: PERSON OF INTEREST is based on a true crime committed by someone I knew in high school. I changed quite a few of the details to create a more interesting read, but the initial idea stemmed from a murder that happened long ago. Q: Tell us a little about your main character and how you developed him/her. A: US Army Special Agent Everett Kohl is with the Criminal Investigation Division at Fort Rickman, Georgia, and assigned to follow Natalie Frazier, the person of interest in a murder investigation. Like most military heroes, Everett is a take-charge guy who puts duty and country first. The problem is he made a mistake in the past that still haunts him. Q: What did you enjoy most about writing this book? Least? A: In PERSON OF INTEREST, the hero and heroine are on the run and need to find answers to solve a murder. Their investigation takes them from a South Georgia army post, to Atlanta and the neighboring town of Decatur and then into the North Georgia Mountains. Giving the story so many diverse settings was an exciting challenge. The least favorable part of writing any story is getting those first words on the page. Once I have a rough draft, I can relax and have fun as the story unfolds. For me, the real creative process comes as I edit and revise. Q: What is the main theme or spiritual message of this book? A: Trusting God is an important spiritual theme in PERSON OF INTEREST. Both Natalie and Everett have to overcome mistakes in the past and accept God back into their lives before they can find their happily-ever-after. Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now? A: I just finished the Author Alterations for PLAIN DANGER, an Amish Suspense that will release in Feb 2016. I’m writing the next story in my Military Investigations series for Love Inspired Suspense. Watch for it later in 2016. I’m also brainstorming a Christmas novella for an e-book anthology with other authors on our Seekerville writing blog. Check us out at www.seekerville.blogspot.com. Q: If you could have dinner with 2 people, who would they be? A: My parents. They’re deceased, and I miss them. Sharing an evening together would put me over the moon! Q: Do you have a favorite hobby? A: I don’t have a hobby per se, but I take daily walks and love to swim. Anything to do with water makes me happy. Q: What is the most rewarding thing you have ever done? A: First, marrying the man of my dreams. Second, giving birth to our three children. Q: Where can readers find you on the internet? A: I love to hear from readers. They can connect with me in the following ways: Website: www.DebbyGiusti.com Email: Debby@DebbyGiusti.com Blog: www.seekerville.blogspot.com and www.crossmyheartprayerteam.blogspot.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/debby.giusti.9 Twitter: https://twitter.com/DebbyGiusti Q: Anything else you’d like to tell or share with us? A: Susan, thank you for inviting me to be on The Suspense Zone. I’m giving away a copy of PERSON OF INTEREST to one lucky winner and hope other folks in your blog community will go to Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/Stranded-Military-Investigations-Debby-Giusti-ebook/dp/B00OYCW2TW/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1421295845&sr=1-9&keywords=Debby+Giusti ) where they can find all my stories. Writing for Love Inspired Books is a dream come true. In my opinion, their suspense is top of the line. |
