Q: Let me start with asking you to tell us a little bit about yourself. A: I grew up in the hot Arizona desert, lived in the cold north for a few years before finally settling in the cozy warmth of North Carolina. I’ve been married for over 30 years, have 5 kids and am a “Nina” to 6 awesome grandkiddos! I love the outdoors, am an off the beaten track traveler, and a night owl who loves to write into the wee hours of the morning. And most of all I am a grateful servant of the Lord who is ever amazed at His generous blessings. Q: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer? A: After my children were almost grown. My daughters always loved the old classic fairytale love stories and I started out writing one for them. And I found something that I loved! Q: Could you give us the highlights of your professional writing career including how you got your first writing break? A: When I decided to try to get published, I started writing freelance articles for a couple local newspapers in my area to gain experience and credibility. At my first conference; the Blue Ridge, I got my first agent. About that time the economy started spiraling downward and publishing houses started to merge or go under, leaving new authors with fewer options to get published. Since it was so hard to sell books at that time my agent retired. So many times I felt like giving up, but God kept prompting me forward. I decided to give it one last ditch effort and I sent my manuscript to White Rose publishing. No agent was required and I got an email with a contract the day after Thanksgiving 2010! Since then I have four published books, two of them Love Inspired Suspense. Q: Would you tell us about your current book release Broken Silence? A: This story is about lost love renewed and rising above the pain of the past. When Amber Talbot’s life in on the line. Someone from her past knows she’s harboring a secret that could destroy him. It then up to ex-fiance ex-Navy Seal, Detective Patrick Wiley to keep Amber safe. Here’s a short blurb about the book: SHE’S HIDING A DEADLY SECRET… …and someone wants to make sure Amber Talbot never reveals it. When she becomes the target of a car bomb and a home invasion, she gets the message loud and clear. If she tells anyone her secret, she will die. The person charged with protecting her is police detective Patrick Wiley—the fiancé she walked away from but never forgot. The same man she never wanted to tell about the attack that left her for dead. Back then Patrick couldn’t save her. Now he must. Because the attacker has returned to finish what he started. Except this time he’s got them both in his sights. Q: Where did you get your inspiration for Broken Silence? A: My inspiration for this book came from my years working as a nurse in the behavioral health field. So many young women have endured painful abuse and many harbor it, blaming themselves accepting responsibility for someone else’s deeds. I wanted to write a story of encouragement to women. Q: What is the main thing you hope readers remember from this story? A: We can all move on from our past hurts and painful pasts. Q: What is your favorite scene/chapter from the book? A: The ending J I hate to divulge the storyline, but just know it’s a happy, fairytale ending! Q: What inspires you to write? A: The world around me. There is so much negativity out there. I love to write positive, God inspired stories, ones that stir the soul about love and faith. Q: How has being a published novelist differed from your expectations of the profession? A: It’s a bigger, broader job then I ever dreamed of! Marketing, attending conference, networking. But, I love to write and seeing my books in print is a blessing beyond words! Q: What advice or tips do you have for writers who are just getting started? A: Pray. Persevere. Write everyday and read the genre that you write. Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now? A: I have another romantic suspense in the works. Based in Blue Ridge area of NC. Q: When you’re not writing what do you like to do? A: Spend time with family and friends. I have six grandkiddos and I spend a lot of time with them! I also work part-time as a Behavioral Health RN working with Substance Abuse patients, and I stay involved at church, love to travel and cook! Q: Where can readers find you on the internet? A: Website: www.AnnsleeUrban.com Blog: Annsleeurban.blogspot.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mary.a.urban.9 Q: Anything else you’d like to tell or share with us?
