Q: What one thing would you like readers to know about you?
A: Oh that’s a tough one. I think at the risk going too deep, I want readers to know I’m approachable and that friendships with them is what makes my writing so rich! I think of them while I write my books, I hope they enjoy them, are touched by them, and that God can even reach them in a dark place.
Q: What is the craziest, most risk-taking thing you’ve ever done?
A: Well, I’m not known for being a risk-taker by my close friends and family. It’s how I’ve survived over 40 years. But I do like to do outdoorsy things, so mountain biking on backwoods trails or rock climbing probably sound relatively risky on paper (but I had helmets and ropes and hooks and all sorts of safety gear on).
Q: Tell me three things about yourself that would surprise your readers.
A: This is tough ‘cause I’m kind of an open book. But, lemme think: okay. I abhor spiders. I am an arachnophobe and will avoid any place where a spider might stereotypically lurk. Believe it or not, I can’t watch real crime shows that have to do with any current (last 5 years) case. I become convinced I’m the next victim and can’t sleep at night. Lastly, I have never seen Ferris Buehler’s Day Off. (I’m not even sure I’m spelling it correctly).
Q: Would you tell us about your current book release The Curse of Misty Wayfair and where the idea for this story came from?
A. The Curse of Misty Wayfair is my third release. The story came from the deep dark depths of myself. Not joking. It’s one that has brewed inside of me for years and in the last few years struggling with auto-immune induced anxiety, depression, and seizures, it was time to finally tackle the topic of mental illness and how culture has viewed it throughout the last century. It was a tough book to write, researching asylum history, delving into the dynamics of anxiety and depression, and introducing precious characters diagnosed with epilepsy and Autism. We live in a such a diverse and beautiful world, I wanted to bring quality to the characters in this novel and value and show them for the deep worth that they have.
