Private Investigator Kat Justice is concerned when her best friend calls and tells her someone followed her home. Kat tells her to call 911, but she goes to her friend’s house anyway to make sure she is fine. Instead, her friend is dead and the killer is there waiting for her.
Homicide detective Mitch Elliot arrives on the scene just as the killer is attempting to jab a needle into Kat’s neck. The killer flees and Mitch pursues him, but then returns to the scene to offer his assistance when the murderer gets away. Kat is devastated and horrified at what happened, and Mitch is moved by the neediness of the woman who seemed unflappable when she worked as a police officer.
It soon becomes apparent that the murderer is after Kat as well. Why? Will Mitch be able to keep her safe while trying to solve the crime? Or will his growing feelings for Kat cloud the investigation?
DEAD WRONG is the second book in The Justice Agency series by Susan Sleeman. It easily stands alone, but readers will want to read the first book in the series to find out more about the Justice family. Kat is a realistic heroine, strong and courageous, yet succumbing to fear and dependency when the situation changes. Mitch is strong, kind, a true hero. Even though he knows he’s good looking, he doesn’t let that go to his head, but instead tries to keep his female co-workers at a distance when they want to date him.
I enjoyed reading DEAD WRONG and didn’t quite figure out who the killer was or the motive before the end of the book. I can’t wait until the next book in this series. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. Don’t miss DEAD WRONG or the first book in this series Double Exposure.
