Laura Berry and her husband Kent have recently moved to Boring, Indiana, to escape the big city and the crime rate there. But Laura isn’t sure how well she’s doing in her new neighborhood. There are very strict home owner association rules, cliquish neighbors, and her husband is working long hours, leaving her wondering if her marriage is over.
But then Laura discovers her neighbor Candace dead on the sofa, hands in a bag of pork rinds. The police say she was poisoned. But who did it… and why? Worse, someone has now targeted Laura, leaving threatening notes and grainy home videos on her porch, and bugging her house.
Laura is determined to find out who is doing this, and why. Will she find out before it’s too late?
Death of the Couch Potato’s Wife is a stand-alone mystery by talented author Christy Barritt. I enjoyed reading this and getting to know Laura Berry, and the quirky residence of her neighborhood. I’m also glad there’s no neighborhood association where I live—I’d go insane with all the meetings Laura is forced to attend!
I did guess who might have killed Candace early on, but I didn’t have all the particulars figured out before they were revealed. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, then you’ll want to read Death of the Couch Potato’s Wife. $14.95. 293 pages.
