Eyes of Justice (Triple Threat)

Review – Eyes of Justice

The mystery-thriller genre is a favorite of mine and this fast-paced series just gets better and better with each new book.
“Eyes of Justice,” book four in the “Triple Threat Club” series, by Wiehl and Henry begins with a shocking, cold-blooded murder that rips the dynamic crime-fighting team of Cassidy, Nicole and Allison apart. In an event that changes the dynamics of the series, the camaraderie of the characters and adds an unorthodox “…quirky new private investigator named Ophelia.”
The story begins when one of the three friends doesn’t arrive for a scheduled dinner date at “Puerto Marquez,” a Mexican restaurant in southeast Portland, Oregon as planned. Thinking she had been delayed and would soon burst through the door, the two sat down to enjoy “…free chips, salsa, and refried beans…that appeared on their table…” upon their arrival.
Forty-five minutes later, although somewhat concerned they decided to go ahead without her and ordered dinner, expecting a cell phone call or text message any minute. After dinner their uneasiness turned into apprehension at their friend’s uncharacteristic behavior and they simultaneously said, “…something is wrong…”
They asked for the check and drove to their missing friend’s condo apartment assuring each other they would find she had just been delayed and forgotten to call. When they found her car in the parking lot and her apartment door unlocked, they looked at one another, “…the unlocked door, the unanswered phone, the missed meal…” and “…nudged the door open.”
Add a dead body, police officer ex-boyfriend, police cover-up, a ruthless killer, an abnormal, sociopath private investigator who calls people “neurotypicals” and an intricate cat-and-mouse game ensues. In a book that Publishers Weekly compares to the popular television show of “Rizzoli and Isles.”
Even though the book begins with the devastating death of one member of the “Triple Threat Club” I’ve withheld the name. Readers discover soon enough whether its hard-hitting crime reporter, Cassidy Shaw, FBI Agent, Nicole Hedges or federal prosecutor, Allison Pierce.
It’s a real risk to kill off a major character in a well-liked series such as this, yet the authors “…dare to turn the entire series upside down…” in such a way that “…causes the reader to become more invested…” writes Romantic Times.
The mystery-thriller genre is a favorite of mine and this fast-paced series just gets better and better with each new book. It’s especially enjoyable without graphic sex and gratuitous violence. Although a main character holds a Christian world view which often means preachy, in this series it’s not. Even though “Eyes of Justice” is part of a series the book can be enjoyed as a stand-alone title.

A Triple Threat Novel (Book 4) – back cover copy
When one of the Triple Threat is murdered, all eyes turn to justice.
Cassidy, Allison, and Nicole fight for justice everyday—Cassidy as a crime reporter, Nicole as an FBI agent, and Allison as a federal prosecutor. Together they’re a Triple Threat to be reckoned with. …A force that, together, has solved the toughest mysteries.
…Until a ruthless killer finds a way to isolate and murder one of the three.
When the authorities keep the survivors at arm’s length in the investigation, the women’s desire for justice goes into overdrive. They find an unexpected ally in a quirky private investigator named Ophelia whose unorthodox methods seem to offer a possible breakthrough in the case.
Yet just as the police appear to have the killer in custody and justice within sight, the murderer strikes again. Not knowing whom to trust, the team must engage in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse where nothing can be taken at face value…and nothing will ever be the same.
