ER nurse Sloane Ferrell escaped her risky past?new name, zip code, job, and a fresh start. She’s finally safe, if she avoids a paper trail and doesn’t let people get too close. Like the hospital’s too-smooth marketing man with his relentless campaign to plaster one “lucky” employee’s face on freeway billboards.
Micah Prescott’s goal is to improve the Hope hospital image, but his role as a volunteer crisis responder is closer to his heart. The selfless work helps fill a void in his life left by family tragedy. So does a tentative new relationship with the compassionate, beautiful, and elusive Sloane Ferrell.
Then a string of brutal crimes makes headlines, summons responders . . . and exposes disturbing details of Sloane’s past.
Can hope spring from crisis?
My take:
I don’t read much outside the suspense genre, but Candace Calvert is my one exception. I never miss her books. I could say it’s because she includes a hint of suspense and mystery in each story that she carefully unfolds throughout the book, but that wouldn’t be true. I’ve said this before and I will say it again. Her characters are so real, that the moment you open her books, you feel as if they are friends you can invite over for coffee. And if they aren’t friends, you want them to be. Well, maybe not all of them. Some are not friends at all but foes, but even they are fleshed out an multidimensional. She is truly the Karen Kingsbury of medical fiction.
I really love the question at the end of the back cover copy above as it is very fitting for this book and honestly all of Calvert’s books. Can hope spring from crisis? It surely can in on of Calvert’s novels. She can take the reader from tears while aching for her characters to a reader who sees hope and possibilities not only for the characters futures, but also for your own future through faith.
Just a quick warning. When you pick up this book, grab a box of tissues, clear out your schedule for the day and forget about everything else you need to do while finding a secluded spot to read, because you won’t want to put this book down. Oh, and one more warning. Perhaps by a box of Lucky Charms as even if you don’t normally eat this cereal, you might find yourself wanting a box by the end of the book.

(patting my heart) I so appreciate your “take” on this newest novel–and your suggestion of celebrating with a bowl of Lucky Charms (smile). Thank you, Susan!
