Review – The Mountains Bow Down

FBI Special Agent Raleigh Harmon needs a vacation. So, she boards a cruise ship to Alaska with her mother, her aunt, and her aunt’s friend, Claire the Clairvoyant. The backdrop of the Last Frontier is a dream destination for Raleigh as she’s hoping to leave behind a hectic work schedule and a romance that seems to be dying.

But when the ship calls for a Man Over Board, things change. The missing person is found—hanging from an upper deck of the cruise ship—dead, from an apparent suicide. But things don’t look right. And Raleigh calls for an investigation, calling in favors from the Seattle FBI office and the Juneau FBI office.

But with only a week to figure out who-dun-it, Raleigh needs help. And she is sent Jack Stephanson—a man who causes complicated feelings. But with only seven days to figure out the crime—chances are high the murderer will walk away free.

THE MOUNTAINS BOW DOWN is the third book in Ms. Giorello’s Raleigh Harmon series, but it easily stands alone. I did read the previous books in this series and I loved them all, but I think THE MOUNTAINS BOWED DOWN was the best of the trilogy. I loved the tension between Jack and Raleigh. And I loved the Dutch character, Geert.

I did figure out who-dun-it easily, but I had to keep reading to figure out why and how. This book is a page-turner, I couldn’t put it down. The characters are very well developed, the setting expertly described (I could almost feel the rain) and the plot expertly plotted out. I totally loved this book and can’t wait to read the fourth book in the series, The Stars Shine On, coming in March of 2012.
