Corporate litigator Mia Shaw suffers the shock of her life when she finds her colleague and friend brutally murdered. Grief-stricken and furious, Mia vows that she will do anything to seek justice and make the killer pay.
The man accused of the murder is a friend of security tech guru Noah Ramirez, but the evidence just doesn’t add up. To save his former ATF partner, Noah needs to convince Mia that the real killer is still on the loose.
Mia soon has more than the criminal prosecution to worry about, however. She is tasked with taking over her friend’s last case and learns he was hiding secrets about his client. She thinks she may have stumbled upon corporate espionage that has turned deadly, but she has no idea of the danger involved. Her only ally is Noah, despite their difference of opinion on the homicide case. Can he win Mia over to his side and protect her from ever-growing threats?
My take:
This legal thriller escalated into a suspenseful ride from the beginning and didn’t slow up until the end. From the onset, I grew suspicious of every character which kept me turning the page. Rachel Dylan did a fabulous job of keeping the action rolling and the reader guessing.
Mia Shaw, a corporate litigator, discovers the brutally murdered body of her co-worker when she arrives at his apartment with balloons to celebrate his first successful year at Finley & Hughes. The visual is a picture she can never erase. At the first bit of evidence, Mia is convinced the murderer is the maintenance man at the apartment complex. Like a shark with a vengeance, she zeroes in on him and is determined to put him behind bars for life until Noah Ramirez, owner of K & R Security, begins to sway her thinking.
When Mia’s boss assigns the case her co-worker was working on to her, the action snowballs. Without warning, she learns she is now a target. Mia faces multiple near-death situations. She struggles with her new faith and tries to figure out how to trust God for peace and safety while dodging malicious attacks.
The twists are endless, with a big surprise in the end. Anyone who likes legal thrillers will be glued to this novel. There are a lot of characters to keep up with, but Rachel Dylan introduced them in a manner that helped the reader remember each one.
I give this book four stars.
