Brooke Adams, a former military psychiatrist, is haunted by nightmares of falling debris, bodies, and fire after her near-death experience in a bombing overseas. She returns home and accepts a job at a medical center where she can continue helping people. When Brook finds her assistant murdered and narrowly escapes flying bullets, thanks to Asher James, she admits her life is in danger but doesn’t know why.
Sergeant First Class Asher James rescues Brooke from a burning café after an explosion overseas. Once he returns the U.S., he locates Brooke and hopes she can help him with his PTSD. He arrives at her office in time to hear gunshots. He discovers a female body and wrestles with the escaping attacker.
Asher is determined to protect Brooke. Their lives are turned upside down as they try to figure out who wants Brooke dead and why. What do the attempts on her life have to do with missing orphans?
The tension builds, and the action escalates in different directions before Eason pulls it all together with a satisfying end. Well done!
I give this book five stars.
