Review – Grave Consequences

Lisa Bergren, in Grave Consequences, continues our traveling tour with the Kensington siblings and their friends through France, Austria and Italy. Though their trip is one of elegance and the elite life played out in these countries, there are also dangers from kidnappers. In addition, there are two men who are waging war with each other for the Cora’s heart and love. 

Before you begin Grave Consequences, please be sure to read Glamorous Illusions first. It will give you the inside scoop of how these young people began their Grand Tour. It will also clarify the circumstances you now find Cora, her siblings and friends caught up in.

Cora’s main struggle continues to be finding where she fits in. She wonders if she can return to her old life, which is what she desires, or whether strings are being pulled to capture her in the Kensington clan.  Are there extenuating circumstances for her inclusion on this Tour?

Lisa explores Cora’s mind and heart in-depth throughout her first book and continues on in Grave Consequences. Cora wants what God desires for her life, yet she must constantly balance what she is going through with His plans in mind  Her decisions are paramount, and could even bring grave consequences if she’s not careful. It may seem that the story mostly revolves around Cora, but Lisa brilliantly brings out all the characters’ strengths and weaknesses, and how they play into the realm of the whole story. This is a very realistic story. No bland characters here!

The Tour itself is exciting as you flow through the pages.  The majestic pomp and circumstance, along with nature outings, are intriguing from multiple angles.  The long flowing gowns emphasize and enhance, while the men are in full dress, bringing visions of grandeur to your mind. The nature outings tickle your nose with the floral fragrances and fresh outdoor air. The banter that goes on between the siblings and their friends is humorous and brings depth to the story. Even when tragedy strikes, the Tour is handled with boldness and strength. 

I, personally, cannot wait to read her third book in this series, Glittering Promises, due out in September. It can’t come soon enough! I need to know where Cora finds herself at the end of the Tour. She’s had her hard farm life switched to a life of pageantry, but is it where God wants her to stay?
