Robin Caroll Interview

August 20, 2018 By The Suspense Zone Leave a Comment

Q: How long have you been writing and what other careers or jobs have you had?
A. I’ve been writing since the 3rd grade, and have always kept journals and poems. I’ve worked a myriad of jobs: customer service, auto industry, monitoring nurse in podiatry, insurance claims…

Q: Would you tell us about your current book release Darkwater Secrets?
A: Darkwater Secrets is the first book in the Darkwater Inn series, set in a hotel located New Orleans, Louisiana. It’s a true series in that the primary characters are the same throughout the series. But of course, murder and mayhem are intertwined with the characters’ drama and issues.

Q: Where did you get your inspiration for this story?
A: Louisiana is my home, and the Cajun flavor is something not everyone has access to experience, so I knew I wanted to set my next series in that locale. I was at a brainstorming retreat with other authors and my friend and mentor, Colleen Coble, suggested I write about the people of a hotel, making the hotel itself one of the characters of the series. And the idea was born from that.

Q: What is the main thing you hope readers remember from this story?
A: There are a lot of layers in this series, but the most prominent one is forgiveness…of those who’ve hurt us, of those we love and have done wrong to us, of ourselves, and realizing that even if we felt like God wasn’t there, He was.

Q: How do you choose your settings for your books?
A. Well, most all of mine are set in the South, because that’s what I know and it’s my heart. I’ve written about other areas before, and there is a huge cultural difference that must be brought into play.

Q: Do you base your characters on people you know or are they totally made up?
A: Most are totally made up, but occasionally, a family/friend’s trait or quirk will make its way into a character. In this series, I created a character to mirror my best friend, and with her blessing, gave the character her name. She loved seeing herself through my eyes, with tweaks for fictional purposes, of course. LOL

Q: Would you share with us what you are working on now?
A. I just concluded all the edits on the second book in the series, Darkwater Lies, which will release in March 2019. I’m starting to kick around ideas for the final book in the series, which will release about this time next year. I’m also gearing up for promotion of my suspense novel, Stratagem, which releases November 1, 2018.

Q: If money were no object what vacation would you like to take and why?
A. Italy, because I just think it’s beautiful. Well, the pictures I’ve seen are

Q: What is the silliest thing you have ever done?
A. Oh, the list is long! LOL I’ve woken my daughters up, when they were upper elementary and jr high, at midnight to dance in the front yard under the moon. Or in the rain.

Q: What is the hardest thing you have ever done?
A. Saying goodbye to my dad, Charlie Bridges. I wasn’t ready to lose him. I’m still not. I miss him every single day.

A. I’ve been writing since the 3rd grade, and have always kept journals and poems. I’ve worked a myriad of jobs: customer service, auto industry, monitoring nurse in podiatry, insurance claims…
